USA/Houston Yamaha motorsports places third in the 2014 Yamaha world technician grand prix
David Speeks, who represented the USA, placed third in the Sports Model Class at the 2014 Yamaha World Tech Grand Prix (WTGP), behind Tomas Candela Sanchez from Spain in first and Benedikt Fuchs from Germany in second. Winners of the National Technician Grand Prix from various nations gathered at the Yamaha Technical Academy (YTA) Global Training Center in Iwata, Japan over two days, Sept. 30th and Oct. 1st, to show their mettle in competitions of technical knowledge, basic maintenance skill, technical skill, and customer service aptitude.
The Yamaha WTGP is an international hands-on skills competition putting the best Yamaha technicians from all over the world competing against each other. This contest had 21 different countries competing. This two day competition consisted of multiple hands-on assessments as well as written tests.
Speeks, a technician from Houston Motorsports, won the US Tech Grand Prix, which is held once every two years, at the Yamaha Motorsports Dealer meeting at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas in June of 2013 and was invited to compete on the international level. Yamaha Motor is proud to recognize and reward YTA trained technicians as well as support and recognize the Yamaha dealers that pursue service excellence.
